What are groups?
The SOA Hub offers Public and Community groups. Public Groups provide spaces where you can start conversations and gain knowledge from all Hub users. Community Groups offer more centralized spaces to discuss specializations and feature exclusive content, industry news, and additional opportunities. Community Groups are a free benefit to SOA members, but non-members can purchase access for a minimal fee.
How do I join a group?
The steps to join Public and Community groups are slightly different.
Public Groups
- Tap the search icon at the top of the screen. A list of available public groups will appear at the top of the results.
- Tap a group name
- On the group description, tap the Join button
- The group page will open, and you will see the group in your My groups list at the top of the Activity Feed
Community Groups
Community groups are a free benefit to SOA members. Non-members can purchase access for a minimal fee.
- From the Home page, tap on Groups, then Manage Community Groups
- Follow the instructions on the page to make your group selections, then tap Save
- Tap the back arrow
- Return to the Activity Feed to see your new groups in the My groups list
I’m not an SOA member, can I join a Community Group?
Yes, for only $15 a year, you can gain access to quality content that can help advance your career and provide a new way to directly reach other community members with similar interests.
- From the app home screen, select “Groups” and “Manage Community Groups.”
- Then select the “purchase” button. This will prompt you to log in with your MySOA account and open a new browser.
- Complete your $15 purchase, navigate back to the app and refresh the page.
- You are now part of Community Groups! Visit the drop-down menu to select any topic area groups that you are interested in.
How do I leave a group?
The steps to leave Public and Community groups are slightly different.
Public Groups
- Open the group page
- Tap the Information icon at the top of the screen
- On the group description, tap Leave Group
- You will be asked to confirm your choice, tap Yes
Community Groups
- From the Home page, tap on Groups, then Manage Community Groups
- Follow the instructions on the page to modify your group selections and tap Save
- Tap the back arrow
- Return to the Activity Feed. Your removed groups will longer appear in the My groups list
Can I request a new Public Group?
Yes you can. Is there a professional or personal interest topic that you would like to create a public group for? Simply complete this form and view the guidelines. Once the topic is accepted and loaded into the app, you can join and start the conversation. Get creative!
